A crowning moment to end the first five years since the formation of
The Regis Players in June 2006 was to receive from NODA (National
Operatic and Dramatic Association) an Accolade of Excellence Award
for their Tinsel production which the Society staged in
December 2010.
The play was selected for the award by NODA District 9
Representative Jose Harrison from the productions she had seen in
the year. District 9 is one of 19 Districts in the South East Region
of NODA (roughly covering West Sussex) and this gave Jose the
daunting task to try and see and support the operatic and play
productions of 32 Societies in her patch. The appalling snow-bound
weather conditions did not deter her from travelling all the way
from her home in Ashington to see Tinsel and commented in her
critique ‘This was a superb production written and directed by a
husband and wife team. It is almost impossible to pick out the star
performers as over 20 cast members, without exception, performed
brilliantly, each portraying their character to perfection’.
The Award Ceremony took place on Sunday 10th July at the
NODA South East Region Conference at the Mandalay Hotel Guildford
and the award was received on behalf of the Society by Deborah Amor,
author of the award winning play.
The
Society were also awarded Runner Up Award for the Tinsel programme
which was received by Peter Green.
This is the second time the Society have won the NODA Accolade for
Excellence award for a play production in their short existence –
the first was Robert Harling’s
Steel Magnolias production
staged in March 2008 and directed by John Covey.
Retiring Chairman Peter Green said ‘I am very proud indeed that our
Society has been able to garner two prestigious Accolade of
Excellence Awards from NODA in such a short period since its
formation. We have had extremely favourable audience feedback for
all our 15 productions to date – but to get this independent
nationally respected assessment of our efforts is truly rewarding
for everyone associated with the Society’.
